As an ever-growing organization, the KMHB is constantly hiring new employees. We were looking for an innovative way to recruit and our last activity was a huge success! We decided to organize a job fair. The idea? Hiring, speed dating style!

The concept: come apply and get a job on the spot!

Last May 4^th, all Kuujjuamiut were invited to come at the KMHB’s head office to discuss with our team and learn about our available jobs.

We have developed an amazing partnership with Youth Employment Services - YES Nunavik, who were at the application table to help the candidates apply.

All candidates who wanted to apply for a position were invited to meet two directors for an interview.

In total, 21 applications were received, and 18 interviews were granted. At the end of the day, we had 10 candidates hired!

We have collected comments from two of our new employees hired that day. Let’s find out what they think about the concept!

Our new inventory coordinator Bruce Turner heard about the event through a friend and worker at KMHB. Since he has been working as a contractor in Nunavik for over 30 years, she recommended him to attend the job fair. He recounts that on the day, he was "really impressed with the turnout! The interview went well, and I was contacted the night of for a job."

He says the event was a “huge success” and a “good idea” because it was the first time he saw this type of event organized in all his years here.

So far, Bruce enjoys the challenges and the teams and looks forward to "building a good base for KMHB warehouses across Nunavik."

Jasmine Arreak, on her side, was invited by Marianne Perron of YES Nunavik. She decided to try her luck and showed up for a spontaneous interview. She is now our new logistics and administrative officer.

She explained how excited she was when she received the news from the managers!

It has been a few weeks since the job fair and we continue to onboard recruits into their positions, making sure they feel comfortable in their new work environment!

Towards new ways of recruiting

We are happy to say that our job fair was a huge success! Even other organizations in Nunavik are considering organizing a similar event. If there is a need to fill positions in the future, we will definitely plan another edition!
