The KMHB welcomes Quebec's Minister of Housing and SHQ's Chief Executive Director to Kuujjuaq.
Kuujjuaq, Nunavik – The KMHB recently welcomed some distinguished guests to celebrate the 12th edition of Housing Day. Housing Minister France-Élaine Duranceau and Mr. Claude Foster, CEO of the Société d'Habitation du Québec (SHQ), enthusiastically took part in the planned activities.

For three days, the government dignitaries immersed themselves in the reality of Nunavik's northern communities, attentive to the unique housing needs and issues in this region. An extensive agenda prepared by the KMHB offered the guests the opportunity to meet with local teams and collaborators, visit homes and KMHB infrastructures, and become acquainted with the specific context of Nunavik.

This visit was an invaluable opportunity for the KMHB to share the challenges and aspirations of the residents of Nunavik. The goal is clear: working together to improve housing in the 14 communities and thus ensure the well-being of tenants.

Ms. Duranceau and Mr. Foster also took part in Housing Day activities, celebrating the importance of housing in this northern region. They attended a vandalism awareness walk alongside students from Jaanimarik high school, which served as a reminder of the importance of preserving our living environment.

Following their visit, Minister Duranceau and SHQ's CEO expressed their commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving the KMHB's rental housing stock, as well as developing innovative housing alternatives for Nunavik.

The KMHB is enthusiastic about continuing its collaboration with the SHQ, which promises to be dynamic and fruitful. Together with the valuable collaboration of its partners, the KMHB hopes to create a future in which all northern communities can flourish, and where every resident of Nunavik can enjoy quality housing.
